Frequently Asked Questions

Is this game free? Do I need a copy of FNAF?

You must have a copy of the original Five Nights at Freddy's games in order to play Deluxe.
This is to avoid issues regarding copyright infringement (we aren't giving "free FNAF" to anyone!).
Consider this game as a "modded" version of FNAF.
Most FNAF games are only $5-USD on Steam. It is very easy to buy the game, and not only be able to use Deluxe, but to support the original creator, Scott Cawthon, as well!Piracy is not tolerated here.

My virus detector(s) say this is a virus. Is it?

No.
We get this question a lot because many (including ourselves) have found false positives.
We believe it may be because of the shaders used, the verification system that uses Windows-based code, or both. This game is also digitally unsigned, like most indie executable projects, so it may look suspicious to antiviruses.
If these were viruses, we wouldn't play these games on our own computers as well!

Which games are you adding to the Deluxe Collection?

Only FNAF 1-4 are currently being developed.
We have considered other games such as FNAF: World and FNAF: Sister Location, but have no confirmed plans on those at this time.

Are there going to be mobile, Mac, or Linux ports?

There are currently no plans for ANY other ports whatsoever. The original FNAF games are only available on Steam for Windows.
We especially have no way to verify the original games' presence on mobile, and would have to rework the controls entirely for every game.
In order to avoid piracy, please do not port this game to any other devices. As said before:
Piracy is not tolerated here.
(You couldn't even if you try. It breaks the game, since it can't verify anything!)

Do I have to be logged into Gamejolt to play?

No, you do not. You may log into Gamejolt for its trophies and other features, but it does not affect gameplay.

I found a bug in-game, and I want to you guys know!

That's wonderful!
You can let us know by joining our Discord and leaving a message in #👾-bug-report. All contributions help the game improve update after update!
Please try to avoid leaving bug information in the Gamejolt comments.
We want to keep it clean for other important comments about the game! It clogs up really fast.

Can I join the team?

We are not looking for people to join the Deluxe Collection team currently, and probably won't for a while.

How do I become a Beta Tester?

We already have plenty of beta testers, so we do not need any more, but thank you to all those who have offered!

You should add [animatronic] to a game! Can you add these characters?

Most of our main characters and animatronics are already decided, but we are currently accepting suggestions for animatronics in the overhaul of the first two games! Please keep in mind: we are trying to stick close to the original characters or characters that are felt to be extrememly important to the game or most players.
For example, we won't add everyone's favorite OC "Mr. Funtime Nightmare Rockstar Freddy Jr.", but we'd love to add previously vague yet officially implied characters that relate to the game!
If you'd like to let us know about it, join our Discord and leave your input in #☝️-suggestions!

I have a (mechanic/idea) you could add to (already released game)!

Since FNAF 1 and FNAF 2 are soon going to be receiving complete overhaul updates, we are free to more minor suggestions that would be understandable to add during the overhaul!Feel free to join our Discord server and message in #☝️-suggestions!

I have a (mechanic/idea) you could add to (NOT released game)!

We usually have major mechanics and ideas figured out for unreleased games, but you are free to put in your two cents before the game is released, as well as any minor improvements you wish you could have seen in the original games!Join our Discord server and message in #☝️-suggestions if you want us to hear about it!

Troubleshooting

Windows "Protected my PC", and it won't let Deluxe load!

Actually, it tricks you to think it won't run so you can stay safe from suspicious programs. Sneaky, but smart!Windows Defender's SmartScreen especially likes to stop you if it thinks the app is from an unsafe publisher (or with no publisher listed at all).Simply click the More info button, and click Run anyway. But otherwise, remember: don't run apps you don't know well! Safety comes first.

What do I do on the verification screen?

You must click on the white line, and it will open up File Explorer for you to submit the original FNAF executable into.Don't know where it is? Here are common places you can find the original game:

Steam (main drive):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\[FNAF GAME TITLE]\
Steam (external drive):
[LETTER]:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\[FNAF GAME TITLE]\

We are currently working out to see if we can somehow access any FNAF titles bought via the Microsoft Store. Most Microsoft Store files are downloaded into a very strict-permission folder. Most people cannot access this folder.
Stay tuned to see if we find out how!

I got the error, "Cannot load Steamworks.mfx".
What do I do?

Steamworks.mfx is a Clickteam-specific plugin that helps with Steam's API. We're not sure why some computers can't load it from the game, and others can, but we've found a workaround.Download these two files here, and place both files in the same folder that your Deluxe.exe is in.
It includes:

Steamworks.mfx (Clickteam's plugin)steam_api.dll (Steam's API plugin)

If you already have a different Clickteam game from Steam, it's very likely that you can find these exact files in those game files as well! (ex. Popgoes Arcade)

It failed to verify! All I got was Doofenshmirtz!

There are a few genuine reasons why a file could fail to verify:

1) The version is not up-to-date.
The game checks for the latest versions of FNAF, which are the following:
FNAF 1 - v1.132
FNAF 2 - v1.033
Go to your Steam settings, and make sure your game is updated!
2) You chose the wrong file.
You can choose the folder itself instead of the .exe file. Make sure the resulting path has the ".exe" at the end!
3) FNaF:DX might not have access to the folder.
If you put your game into a folder besides Steam's default folders, it might lose the ability to access it, depending on what kind of folder you put it into.
You could moving the FNAF game into a folder that is accessible, or opening Deluxe as administrator!
If you're still stuck, join the Discord server and ask in #❗-game-help!

Deluxe won't turn on, or it deleted itself. What happened?

Not only can Windows Defender think Deluxe is a virus, but other antiviruses can, too.
Sometimes these antiviruses will warn you if you try to start up a suspicious program, but it can also shut it down quietly without you knowing before it loads.
Most antiviruses can also "quarantine" these apps into its own secret folders to stop it from running, as well as stop other apps from knowing where it is and running it, too.Check if disabling your antivirus allows it to run, see if you can "whitelist" it away from being blocked, and/or check to see if it was quarantined.Don't forget to turn your antivirus back on afterwards!

None of these helped my issue. Where can I get help?

Feel free to join our Discord server and leave a message explaining the situation in #❗-game-help.
We will try our best to help you sort it out!

What is "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Deluxe Collection"?

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Deluxe Collection (more commonly, FNaF DX or FNAF: Deluxe) is a fan-made project (Not associated with Scott Cawthon or Scottgames) that aims to upgrade & optimize the first 4 Five Nights at Freddy's games. These games are completely reprogrammed from the ground up in Clickteam Fusion 2.5+!

Development History:

The game started of when the games lead Developer MrFreddy64 was bored and decided to remake the first FNaF game and see how far he'll get. After pitching the idea of a secret 8th night involving Springtrap to his buddy ReallyJustAron is when the team really started to form. Later down the line, samlovesmath joined to help render the sprites for Springtrap!Midway through the development of FNaF 2 Deluxe, Flaxen & NateTheGuy hopped on the project! While Flaxen re-rendered the party rooms into 16:9 (Cause they were 4:3 in the original FNaF 2), Nate made the cool walking in animations you see in every Youtube thumbnail! At the beginning, it was just a simple FNaF 1 Remake, but than spiraled into a big ass project! Really the definition of the domino effect.
